Joeseph Santino Maida

Joey is sitting across from me right now, as I enjoy my bagel and coffee. He sits happily in his bouncy seat, trying to pull the toys off the bar above him. He's managed to pull them off several times before, and each time seems just as fun as the last. When he makes eye contact with me, he smiles and shows me the little tooth that is emerging from his bottom gums. As adorable as he is, he can be the loudest creature on this earth. When he is upset, tired or just is thinking about not being happy, he can scream and wail like the world is ending. I've tried to figure out what I can do differently to make him happier or just not cry as much. I've sung every song known to mankind. I've fed him until he is absolutely so full that he barfs it back up. I've walked him hundreds of miles around our house. Some days one thing will work and some days another thing will work. Some days he cries it out for a bit. It breaks my heart to listen to him cry, but I really don't know what else I can do for him. When he can finally sleep and wake up on his own, I see that perfect smile and it gives me strength to move on to the next time it happens.

We got a few stares yesterday while coming out of the family locker room at our gym. Richard and I decided to take the boys swimming since it was a warm day. Neither one was too impressed about the idea and didn't last too long. Joey, not surprisingly, was the first to melt down. As I took my screaming child into the locker room to change his diaper and clothes, the people outside the little room just gave me looks of question and confusion. Why was my child screaming like I had just dropped him on the ground? Why was his face so red that someone might call CPS on me? The answer was simple: I laid him on the changing table to change his diaper. Joey does not like *that* changing table, he only likes the soft one at home. Sigh.

As I wrap this up, Joey is now yawning and becoming less and less interested in his toys. He still flashes that smile that now has a couple of fingers hanging out the side. Soon I'll shower him with kisses and bring him up to his room where his brother is sleeping soundly. It will be Joey's turn to fuss and wake his brother, so I can start round two with Cole. It would be nice if they would sleep at the same time. For now, these our our days and we wouldn't have it any other way (well, maybe). We love them more than anything else in this world and truly cherish every day with them.

We've come to the conclusion that we *really* love Maggie. She sleeps most of the day, puts herself to bed at night and doesn't wake up until one of us wakes up in the morning. Go Beagle.
